By John S. Gray

In the annals of American history, the Battle of the Little Bighorn stands as one of the most iconic and tragic events. On that fateful day in June 1876, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and his 7th Cavalry Regiment were annihilated by a combined force of Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors. The battle was a watershed moment in the history of the American West, and its legacy continues to be debated today.

In his new book, Rosebud June 17 1876: The Prelude to the Little Big Horn, John S. Gray provides a gripping account of the events leading up to the battle. Drawing on extensive research, Gray paints a vivid picture of the complex political and military situation that existed on the Northern Plains in the years leading up to the conflict.

Gray begins his book by describing the Lakota and Cheyenne peoples who lived in the Black Hills region of present-day South Dakota and Wyoming. These proud and independent tribes had a long history of resisting white encroachment on their lands. In the 1860s, the discovery of gold in the Black Hills led to a new wave of white settlers and miners, and tensions between the Lakota and Cheyenne and the United States government began to escalate.

In 1874, the United States government Free Downloaded the Lakota and Cheyenne to move to reservations. The Lakota and Cheyenne refused, and the government responded by sending the Army to force them to comply. This led to a series of clashes between the Army and the Lakota and Cheyenne, culminating in the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Gray's book provides a detailed account of the Battle of the Rosebud, which took place on June 17, 1876, just two days before the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The Battle of the Rosebud was a significant victory for the Lakota and Cheyenne, and it gave them a false sense of confidence going into the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Rosebud June 17 1876: The Prelude to the Little Big Horn is a well-researched and engaging book that provides a new perspective on the events leading up to one of the most iconic battles in American history. Gray's book is a must-read for anyone interested in this fascinating period of American history.
