The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses used by enslaved people in the United States to escape to freedom in the North and Canada. It was a dangerous and difficult journey, but it was also a testament to the resilience and determination of the people who risked their lives for freedom.
People of the Underground Railroad tells the stories of some of the people who made the journey to freedom. These include Harriet Tubman, the most famous conductor on the Underground Railroad; Frederick Douglass, a former slave who became a leading abolitionist; and Sojourner Truth, a former slave who became a powerful voice for women's rights.
These stories are not just about the individuals who made them. They are also about the collective effort of the people who helped to make the Underground Railroad possible. These included white abolitionists, free Black people, and enslaved people themselves. They all played a vital role in the fight for freedom.
