In the small town of Colby, Kansas, in the heart of the American Midwest, a young woman named Sarah Bush grew up with a deep love of her country. She was inspired by stories of her grandfather, who had served in World War II, and dreamed of following in his footsteps.

When the United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001, Sarah was a college student at Kansas State University. She was moved by the images of suffering and injustice that she saw on the news, and she felt a strong call to serve her country.

Despite the objections of her family and friends, Sarah dropped out of college and enlisted in the Army. She was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, and in 2005, she deployed to Afghanistan.

Sarah's experiences in Afghanistan were both harrowing and transformative. She witnessed firsthand the horrors of war, but she also saw the courage and resilience of the Afghan people. She came to understand the complex political and social dynamics of the country, and she developed a deep respect for the Afghan culture.

After her deployment, Sarah returned home to the United States a changed woman. She was haunted by the memories of what she had seen and experienced, but she was also filled with a deep sense of purpose and gratitude.

In Heard My Country Calling, Sarah shares her powerful and moving story of war and redemption. This is a book that will stay with you long after you finish reading it. It is a story of courage, sacrifice, and the power of the human spirit.
